Obamacare’s Positive Outcome

The Affordable Care Act (ACA) has succeeded in bringing down the number of uninsured people to its lowest in 40 years. Latinos are among the main beneficiaries, as they are the largest community without access to healthcare.

It is estimated that today, five years after the approval of Obamacare, 16.4 million people have gained insurance. The official figures estimate that 4.2 million of them are Hispanic, a demographic group in which the uninsured reached 41.8 percent, a number that has been reduced by 12.3 percent.

The pressing threat of personal bankruptcy due to illness or medical emergency has disappeared for these individuals, the same way that insurance companies used to arbitrarily disqualify people from getting coverage.

Expenses within the health insurance industry have also decreased dramatically, saving public money and defying the worst predictions.

These positive outcomes have taken place in spite of implementation inconveniences ? which have been solved along the way, ? and the obstacles that critics have persistently put on its way.

The desire of Republican legislators to destroy Obamacare at all costs has become a cause for conservatives, who contribute more money and support. To this day, they have not presented a realistic plan to replace it. Republican governors have refused to put it into effect, although some are now reconsidering doing so despite the hostility expressed by Congress. Additionally, the courts are currently dealing with a case against the ACA regarding the law’s wording.

These past five years, the ACA was readjusted repeatedly by the White House. Ironically, the improvements made to the plan were condemned as abuses of presidential authority by the Republican Congress.

At this point, the right thing to do would be for Republicans to work alongside Democrats to improve ACA instead of carrying on sabotaging it. Millions of people have already enjoyed the benefits and the numbers increase every year, as does the public’s interest in the plan. This is a historic law that has improved the quality of life for the people in the United States and will continue to do so
